ButterFlys | Cover Sweet Pop

Cover Sweet Pop

SweetPop is simply us, the ButterFlys.

Because if you read the definition of Pop music, it comes from rock, country, blues, but also classical, electric, Indian music and so on.

We grew up and were built through and by this music.

The ‘Sweet’ side comes from our desire to destructure and reharmonise well-known music, seeking out the softness, beauty and ‘us’ in it, reappropriating this pop culture music as close as possible to what we are and how we feel, all in conjunction with our instruments.

Our compositions are the logical extension of our research into sound, music and humanity.

SweetPop was born.

ButterFlys is a unique musical duo, the fruit of a meeting between Émilie Garcia, a harpist who won a gold medal with honours from the jury at the Saint-Maur-des-Fossés Conservatoire, and Yohan Quillet, a musician certified in improvisation techniques by the CMDL. This duo fuses the worlds of classical and jazz-rock to create a unique musical experience.

Composition and repertoire

Émilie, with her classical roots, and Yohan, who comes from the jazz and rock scene, have found a perfect alchemy that translates into a project mixing covers and original compositions. Their repertoire includes pop tunes revisited in a cool jazz style, ideal for relaxing atmospheres such as those on a summer terrace, at a cocktail party or in a hotel. Their compositions, meanwhile, fit in perfectly with jazz or pop festivals, adding a touch of freshness and innovation.

An Interactive Experience

Their approach to cover versions is particularly original: the songs are rearranged in such a way that the audience only recognises them when the chorus comes on, adding an interactive and playful dimension to their concerts. At the end of the show, the more curious even get the chance to try out the electric harp, an instrument which, under Émilie's fingers, proves to be as surprising as it is bewitching.

A concert in three acts

Their performances are structured in three distinct parts:

A calm, gentle first part, ideal for immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the concert.
The second part is a little more dynamic, allowing the energy to build.
Finally, there's a last part where they try to get the audience to sing or dance, adapting their performance to suit the atmosphere of the venue.

Formation and flexibility

The duo, consisting of electric harp and guitar (classical or electric), is reinforced by the voice of each of the musicians, creating a rich, balanced harmony. For more rhythmic evenings, the duo can be transformed into a trio with the addition of a percussionist, bringing an extra dimension to their music.

A meteoric rise

Since its creation in August 2023, ButterFlys has played over 50 concerts in towns including Auxerre, Sens, Pornic, La Rochelle, Montargis, Paris, Ferrières, Fontainebleau, Samois, Melun and Réau. Their rapid success testifies to the quality and originality of their project, which continues to attract an ever-widening audience.
